TPPPPPPP Presentations and Mise en Scene

This week started with our double lesson on Wednesday, sports day having been on Monday. Being the first full week after the holidays meant that our excessive amount of homework was due in. However the main focus of the lesson was presenting of TPPP presentations on our experiences at TAPs in London. After some initial bickering, Lydia bravely decided to present first. Most notably she described learning about how the use of lineals in theater can be used to represent an actor's emotions. Axel took a different approach and recounted his experiences day by day. It was not only a nice trip down memory lane but it also made me realize how much we learned in such a short amount of time. Bekki focused on how the experience changed her as a theater student, with all that training behind her she is more confidant than ever to take on the challenge of IB theater. I, of course, having created my presentation, then presenting it, do not need to describe what I presented because I indeed have already presented it. :)

On Thursday we had a lesson on Mise en Scene. Its literal translation is "putting on the stage" but it really means everything involved in the production and how the process of the show goes from point A to point B (B being the end product of the performance). At first "putting on the stage" seems a bit daunting, but all the elements are connected and thus grounded by the "performance concept" or "director's concept". This main idea drives all the decisions and acts as a base for all the design, technical, and performance elements. Some of the processes that are linked to the concept are: LX, costumes, set, props, SX, make-up, hair, acting style, and choreography.
