Starting Commedia Project

I unfortunately missed the first lesson of drama, so I started my week on Wednesday! Because Mr. Fearnehough was out, we started researching the conventions and uses of Commedia dell'arte. Abigail and I worked together on a powerpoint presentation and got the ground work done for our research. It turns that our research is because our ensemble will be putting on a "production" of a commedia piece. At first this announcement was pretty overwhelming for me, seeing as a devised piece takes more dramatic courage and creativity. At the same time, it makes the experience more exciting seeing as we have more input as an ensemble. Also I already feel like I have a decent base in commedia from my time at TAPs. After seeing One Man Two Guvnors, a modern commedia piece, we discussed all of the stock characters and so,e of the lazzi in our London group. After that we got into trios and devised short pieces.

My group consisted of me, Carmen, and another girl and we set our scene in a doctors office. We utilized the stock characters of Pantalone (moi as an ailing rich miser), il dottori (Carmen as the doctor) and Pedrolino as the stupid and bumbling helper to Pantalone. To explain my various maladies to the doctor, I demonstrated them by using physical comedy to punch Pedrolino in the stomach are spitting in the eyes. Obvious hilarity ensued.

On Thursday we presented our Acid tests. When I say we, I mean everyone but me, I having annoyingly forgotten it at home :( Both Abigail and Bekki presented their posters on Oh the Humanity, Axel on Damned by Despair, Lydia on One Man Two Guvnors, and Mary on The Container. Axel actually used sweat to get the smell of fear on his poster, Bekki used sequins to respresent the lighting patterns, and Abigail used the quotes from the dialogue to literally hold up the stage with her drawing. Hopefully I'll get to present mine soon.
